Ireland now take on Belgium
Following on from a week long training camp in Spain, Muller has now announced a squad of 17 to travel Belgium on Friday 5th February for a double header against the world number 18’s.
Muller’s decision not to consider Eimear Cregan, Lauren Barr, Alex Speers, Megan Frazer, Emma Stewart, and Niamh Atcheler for selection will provide other players with increased international exposure. This team also sees the inclusion of two new caps in Nicci Daly and Audrey O' Flynn, as well as the return of Julia O'Halloran after a year-long hiatus from international hockey. These matches will serve as both a preparation and trial event for the World Cup Qualifiers in Chile in April 2010.
Commenting in advance of the matches Gene Muller said “The matches against Belgium will be our first competitive international matches since the European championships in August last year. I was very happy with our progress in the week long training camp in Spain and the team are looking forward to playing international matches. Belgium are an emerging force in European hockey and have recently attained A division status. The matches will be very competitive and good preparation for the World Cup qualifiers in April this year.”
