East Grinstead Win Men's England Indoor Title
East Grinstead secured back to back National Indoor titles thanks to a thrilling 9-5 victory over Surbiton at the Trent FM Arena in Nottingham on Sunday evening. England and Great Britain star Ashley Jackson was the hero with four goals in the final against Indoor Premier Division newcomers Surbiton.
The victory means East Grinstead will be England’s representatives in the 2011 European indoor competition.
The Ladies final was a much closer affair with the games going to penalty strokes.. Alex Scott cancelled out the 2-1 lead that Rebecca Herbert had given Leicester with fewer than ten minutes remaining. Both goalkeepers pulled off saves before Scott missed her second penalty of the match to hand victory to the women of Leicester.
In the U18 competitions Beeston missed out in both finals. Old Loughtonians boys and Belper girls were celebrating victories over the club with home advantage.A Harry Kempe hat-trick helped Old Loughts to a 6-1 win while Jo Leigh scored two in Belper’s 5-0 win over the local side.
Beeston also lost in the final of the U16 girls competition going down 7-3 to Trojans.
Bromley & Beckenham beat Hampshire club Havant by the same score to take the U16 boys championship.
